Filler dissolving
What is Filler Dissolving?
There may be scenarios where a patient or practitioner chooses to dissolve hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler. For example, the filler might have migrated into the neighbouring soft tissues, or might have become uneven in texture. It might also be dissolved in cases of immune reaction to filler. HA dermal fillers can be dissolved using the enzyme hyaluronidase.
How does Hyaluronidase work?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme used in the medical field to aid the absorption of medicines or fluids by breaking down HA and increasing tissue permeability. Because the hyaluronic acid in fillers is very similar to our natural HA, it can be used safely and effectively to remove unwanted or misplaced filler. Our natural HA is then replenished over the following 3-7 days.

What’s involved in Filler Dissolving?
Following a consultation, the practitioner will carry out a patch test to confirm you are not allergic to hyaluronidase. Local or topical anaesthetic may be used before the hyaluronidase is administered using either fine needles or a blunt cannula.
The hyaluronic acid will be broken down over the following days, with the final result seen at 1-2 weeks. After this time, filler can be carried out again if desired.
On occasion, a further dissolving appointment may be required.
